What time do birds go to sleep?

Birds are primarily diurnal, which means they sleep at night and are up throughout the day. There are several

outliers, such as the night owl. Although it occasionally seems like diurnal birds are sleeping throughout

the day, this is a misconception. Although they often cover their eyes when sleeping or waiting to avoid the sun's

rays, birds are always fully alert. Typically, birds wake up with the sun and set with it. Most birds are

active at daybreak in quest of early food and leftovers from the previous night's activity. To get ready for their nighttime

sleep, to stay safe from nocturnal predators, and to make sure they have enough light to move around in.
